Morgan Lillard represents the point at which thing start getting pretty murky for my strand of the Lillard line. We know that John D. Lillard's father was named Morgan; But it seems that there were at least two Morgan Lillards in the early 19th century and it's not quite clear who was who. There was a Morgan Lillard who served as a 2nd Corporal with the Rockingham (NC) regiment during the War of 1812. It is also possible that this was the same Morgan Lillard who served as a Rockingham County constable from 1812-1814.
It is a further possibility that the Morgan Lillard in question was the son of Moses Lillard--traditionally regarded as the beginning patriarch of the family in America.
